Toronto: where our mayor smokes crack

PR representative for Toronto Transit Commission

So Rob Ford has dropped the bomb and has admitted to alleged crack addiction scandal (big surprise). Although he does not plan to step down as mayor of Toronto, one year from now a reelection will take place. Do you plan on reelecting Rob Ford to represent our city?

Well if a crack-addicted mayor doesn’t sound as appealing as you would have hoped, don’t worry because our own CEO Karen Stintz plans to run in the election next October.

With the election only a year away, on October 27th 2014, the only other candidate that has jumped into the race is former conservative councilor and businessman David Soknacki.

Honestly if two candidates have showed an interest this early in the race, it looks like Ford has a tough battle ahead of him. Rob Ford was not a bad mayor; he made some bad personal choices, however the choices he made for the city seemed to slowly benefit our society. Am I wrong? Aside from making a joke out of our city, Toronto’s still standing strong!

Karen has worked close and personally with Mayor Rob Ford in the transportation relief line process, and her views truly aren’t that different from Ford’s.

“If you like the policies but don’t like the drama, I’m your person,” Karen truly portrays a kinder, gentler version of Ford.

Now I know you’re wondering, what is a CEO of a transit company doing running for Mayor of Toronto?

Well Karen Stintz was first elected as councilor in 2003. After the 2010 municipal election, Mr. Ford appointed her chair of the Toronto Transit Commission and she supported his bid to control spending.

After 11 years working in city hall has given her the experience to be mayor and credibility to take on the challenge.

And in order to ensure fairness across the board, Karen has made a decision to avoid controversy.

“I don’t want anyone to suggest I’m trying to use the TTC as a platform (for the mayor’s race),”

Now Karen has voluntarily agreed to step down as of January 2nd when Canditates can officially register and start spending money. Now it is up to the city council to decide but the most promising CEO would be Josh Colle, she cited his experience on the TTC board and his career working in the transportation sector.

“We’ve begun the journey forward. It took us three years, but I believe we have a plan that is best for the city and I will defend that plan in the next election.”

Do you believe Karen Stintz will make an appropriate mayor for Toronto? Or will Toronto forever be the home of a mayor that smokes crack? Let me know what your think in the comments below!
